The perfect day

I'm aware a while before the alarm goes off. My inner clock, developed by years multitasking in a kitchen, tells me I have about six minutes of pretend sleep before I have to oficially wake up. In the back of my mind there's a list of things I have to do today being written and adjusted. But what I'm really enjoying right now is the smell of my bed; I washed the sheets and comforter yesterday and used my favorite fabric softener. I am enjoying the warmth under the covers and the cold breeze blowing through the half open doors to the balcony on my face. I am also enjoying sliding a fold in the sheet between my toes; I've done this my whole life. Sometimes came awake and knew I'd been doing that while asleep. One second before the alarm rings, I open my eyes.

I realize the light in the room is perfect and regret not opening them sooner. There's something about dawn and twilight that colors everything in various shades of blue. These are still my favorite moments of the day.
